must have camping hygiene essentials

Camping is one of the best ways of relaxation for the body and soul. Living in nature and staying out of the city chaos will make your mind fresh and boost you to rejoin your life and increase effectiveness. However, your enjoyment may decline, or you may get sick during camping due to improper hygiene. As camping is an outdoor activity where we plan to stay out of home for days in a tent or camper, all the hygiene practices and essentials may not match. Again, if you forget any hygiene essentials, it will ruin all the joy of your camping days and keep you worrying all day. Also, falling sick after camping might be there.

Considering all the issues above, I tried to make a list of must-have hygiene essentials using all of my last five years of camping experience. You should carry these items during your camping days to have a worry-free, healthy camping experience. There will be a printable checklist at the end of the article. You can print it and tick marks the inches to confirm hygiene essentials on your next trip.

List of Hygiene Essentials During Camping

Here is a short list of hygiene items that you should carry while camping. I also tried to provide you with a buying site so that it becomes easier for you.

Towel

After the shower or freshening up, you need a towel to wipe up and dry your body. When choosing a towel for your camping trip, choose a thin and moderate-sized one. A thick one will be dried fast for your subsequent use, and a moderate size will save your space during packing.

Toothpaste and Toothbrush

The pain of gum is the most unbearable of all the pain. To ensure healthy gum and a fresh smile, you must remember to brush your teeth regularly, even during camping. As a toothbrush is a very tiny item in most cases, I forgot to carry my brush with me. So I suffered. That’s why I kept it in the second position on my list. While picking a toothbrush, try to choose a good quality one. The organic bamboo toothbrushes will be the best choice for you. While buying toothpaste, go for a herbal-flavored one. I am sure you will like it. You can try Himalaya Botanique

Biodegradable Soap

Remember to carry biodegradable soap during your camping. I suggested biodegradable because the dirt or foam from it will not harm the environment or the campsite. It will be degraded with time and rainwater. Again, these types of soap are better for the skin than other available soap in the market.

Unscented Deodorant

Camping or hiking is very exhausting due to various physical activities. Physical exhaustion causes sweating. So, if you do not want to smell stinky during your camping days, you must carry deodorant. Some campers and hikers refuse to carry deodorant because of the large bottle size, and scented deodorant may attract wild bugs. To solve this issue, I would prefer to carry pocket deodorants. Again, if you want to avoid alcohol in deodorant, then you can go for small-sized bottles.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is required only when planning for a campsite where there is a possibility of running out of water or limited water so that you can’t shower. During that time, use this dry shampoo to keep your hair clean without making it wet. However, I prefer to pick such a camping place where there will be a sufficient water source. In this case, carry the average shampoo bottle. But when choosing a bottle for dry or normal shampoo, pick a small bottle. If required, buy a small separate bottle to carry shampoo. Pour the shampoo you want from the main bottle into the small one you will take during camping.

Toilet tissue / wiping tissue

You must carry enough wiping tissue for your cleanliness after the call of nature. You must carry a minimum pack of wiping tissues. Do not use the tissue here and there. Dispose of the tissue or burry it under the soil after use.

Trash Disposal

There will be many non-disposable wastes during camping. To carry these wastes, you must carry a dry trash disposal sack. Ensure the sack has a zipper or seal system so that the trash doesn’t leak out.

Hand Sanitizer

As a usual hygiene practice must use hand sanitizer before every meal and after the poop. There are many types of hand sanitizer. But I would prefer the gel type one. This sanitizer will make your hands clean and germless without harming or drying your skin. Remember one thing, hand sanitizer is a very explosive chemical component. Don’t keep your hand sanitizer bottle close to any fire or campfire or in a hot place. Again, after applying the sanitizer, take some time before you go aside from the fire.

Face wash

As with the health care mentioned above, you must carry a gentle face wash when camping. Wash your face, if possible, not daily but at least once every two days.

Sunscreen

Caring for your skin during camping is very important. As most camping activities are in sunlight, you must carry sunscreen. When choosing a sunscreen, buy the one that is perfect for your skin type.

Extra socks

To ensure the hygiene of your feet, you need to wear socks. But in wet weather, the socks may get wet due to water or sitting inside. This may cause your feet to stink and irritate. To face the situation, don’t forget to carry an extra pair of socks. Woolen socks are preferable to silk or mixed fabrics.

Extra Pair of shoes

As with the socks, your shoes may get wet. Wearing a damp shoe for a long time may cause a cough or fever and ruin your camping joys. To avoid this situation, carry an extra pair of shoes in advance. Change your wet shoes with dry pairs, clean the used ones, and keep them dry.

How to wash your hands while camping?

Using a safe, biodegradable soap for the environment is essential when camping. Regular soap can harm wildlife and water sources. Hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol is effective when soap and water are unavailable. Still, it shouldn’t replace proper handwashing when possible. Bring an extra gallon of water per person daily dedicated to hygiene practices. Always wash hands at least 200 feet away from natural water sources to prevent contamination. If you run out of water, use hand sanitizer or biodegradable wet wipes.

Why do we need hygiene kits when camping?

A hygiene kit is essential to ensure healthy and hygienic camping days. Statistics show that about 74% of camping enthusiasts suffer from diarrhea during or after camping. So, to keep yourself out of viruses, germs, and bacterial attacks, you must carry hygiene kits during your camping.

What do you mean by camp hygiene?

Camp hygiene means the hygiene practices that must be followed during camping for healthy and hygienic camping. It includes both personal and environmental hygiene.

How to clean your face while camping?

Keeping your face clean while camping is very tough. But keeping the face clean is comforting, and skin health must keep the fang away from dirt, sweat, and grime using biodegradable wipes or a soft cloth soaked in water. If you have access to water, splash some on your face and gently cleanse with a small amount of mild, eco-friendly soap. Pay extra attention to oily areas like your forehead, nose, and chin. Rinse thoroughly, then dry your face with a clean towel. Finally, apply a light moisturizer to keep your skin healthy and hydrated, especially in dry or windy conditions.

How Do I Wash My Clothes on the Trail?

To wash your clothes during camping, find a minimum of 200 feet away from a natural water source to avoid contamination. Use biodegradable soap in minimal amounts. It’s a good idea to bring along a lightweight, collapsible bucket for easier washing. Start by filling the bucket with water, then add just a little soap and gently agitate your clothes. Make sure to rinse them thoroughly to get rid of all the soap residue. then wring them out before hanging them up to dry in a sunny, breezy location. To minimize your environmental impact, avoid washing too many items at once. try to pack out any waste or non-biodegradable materials.
